What’s in a name?

- July 2017

There are a number of different things to consider in naming a business.  In doing so you are creating a brand, and a perception, and you are framing the business in a certain light.

Some choose to name a business in a fairly factual way, to describe what it does.  Some take a more pragmatic approach and name it after the owners.  Some business owners are creative and find a way to name their business to describe what it represents.

We keep getting asked where ‘Parbery’ comes from.

In short, it is a subtle, yet important, link to the Canberra community and represents some of the values that are important Parbery Consulting and our clients.

Looking back in Canberra’s history, Mr and Mrs Parbery were early residents of Kingston.  Mr Parbery was the local dentist, and Mrs Parbery worked for various causes, including being a foundation member (and later life member) of the Canberra Croquet Club and was President of the Royal Canberra Golf Club.

There is a little more to it than that, a few more personal connections with the name.  Suffice to say, that the Parbery’s represent what this firm is all about – providing an authentic local product to our clients in Canberra that is true to itself, true to our clients, and genuinely collaborative in its delivery.
